Exam Format
The Queen Elizabeth’s School 11+ consists of two papers, each lasting approximately 50 minutes:
English
Questions are aligned with the National Curriculum and reflect what pupils learn at school. This paper commonly includes a reading comprehension section alongside other English-based skills.
Mathematics
The mathematics paper assesses Key Stage 2 content taught up to the beginning of Year 6. Topics generally include number, measurement, geometry, and statistics.
How Are Places Allocated at Queen Elizabeth’s School?
After the exam, all papers are marked and age-standardised. This process ensures fairness by accounting for each child’s age, preventing younger candidates from being disadvantaged.
The standardised scores from the English and Maths papers are then combined to produce a single overall score. Boys who achieve a combined score of 220 or above are considered eligible for admission.

Competition for Places
Queen Elizabeth’s School has 180 places available each year, but the number of boys reaching the qualifying score is significantly higher:
Places are offered strictly to the 180 highest-scoring boys.
